PalAmerican Site Supervisor, Monica was on shift when a young couple quickly approached her outside of the security office. The man was in a panic as he explained to Monica that his wife was in labor.
Jumping into action, Monica quickly made her way into the medical center to get her hands on a wheelchair. Upon her return, she could see that the baby would arrive at any moment. Monica kept the mother as comfortable as possible while on the phone with rapid response notifying them of the emergency.
Monica continued to tend to the soon-to-be mother ensuring she was ok. The baby boy made its arrival into the world all within less than five minutes. “I caught the baby in my hands. It all just happened so fast. All my instincts just came together. I guess all of those TV shows I’ve watched and being a mother, myself really helped prepare me for that moment,” explains Monica.
Monica wrapped the healthy baby boy in a blanket and congratulated the parents. They all made their way back into the hospital where Monica checked on the family several times to ensure everyone was safe and healthy.
“It all feels like a blur. The baby arrived in less than five minutes and I just wanted to ensure that the mother was comfortable, as possible because she was giving birth while sitting in a wheelchair. I’m just so happy I was there at the right time and at the right place to help them,” says Monica.
We are extremely proud of Monica for her quick reaction and for helping to deliver a healthy baby boy. She truly went above the call of duty and we could not be any more pleased with her.
Congratulations to Monica and to the young couple!
