Earth Day 2023: Securing our Planet

April
21

About Earth Day

Earth Day began in 1970, as people in North America and across the globe became more aware of the environmental harm that humans have caused and continue to cause to our planet. This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in Our Planet.” The goal is to engage governments, institutions, businesses, and all citizens to do their part and activate the gears toward a sustainable Earth.

The Role of Security in Protecting the Planet

Environmental protection is often considered the responsibility of governments and non-profit organizations. However, the security industry has an essential role in protecting the planet. Although security companies focus on protecting people and property, environmental security is also critical for maintaining a safe and secure world.

As security professionals, we can reduce our environmental footprint by implementing sustainable practices such as using renewable energy sources, reducing paper usage, and promoting recycling. The security industry can contribute to environmental protection by adopting sustainable practices, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting environmental awareness in our communities. By doing so, we can help mitigate environmental risks and contribute to a more sustainable future.

PalAmerican CARES

PalAmerican takes environmental protection very seriously. We’ve achieved the Environmental Registration Certification ISO 14001:2015. As part of our CARE Culture, we hold ourselves accountable for our environmental impact by implementing several sustainability efforts. For example, we have established end-of-life processes for all equipment, ensuring we use more sustainable equipment that lasts for more extended periods of time and that the proper care and recycling processes are in place. For the last few years, PalAmerican has transitioned to primarily hybrid vehicles through our Green Vehicle Program. Ensuring the cars driven on shift are more fuel efficient has drastically reduced our emission levels.

What YOU Can Do to Help Our Planet

Environmental protection begins with you and your community! Consider participating in local fundraisers and donating to planet-driven organizations and charities such as Conservation International Foundation, Earth Day Network, Defenders of Wildlife, National Wildlife Federation.

Here’s a list of American organizations you may be interested in.

Another great way to participate in Earth Day is through hosting group events such as beach clean-ups, tree planting, and recycling challenges. Not only will you do your part in contributing to a cleaner world, but you will encourage your colleagues, friends, and family to do so too!

Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of environmental protection and sustainability. The security industry can contribute to a more sustainable future by adopting sustainable practices, promoting sustainability among employees and clients and staying informed about environmental threats. As individuals, we must take the protection of our planet seriously, not only on Earth Day but every day, taking steps to protect the world we live in as part of our daily routines.

As we celebrate Earth Day, let’s remember the critical role that PalAmericans play in protecting the planet and working together to create a more sustainable world.
